Changing the WhatsApp icon is a simple way to personalize your home screen and match the messenger to the wallpaper, colors, or style of your other apps. On Android, this can be done with launchers and shortcut creators. On iPhone, the iOS Shortcuts feature allows you to achieve a similar result. Below, you can download the recommended apps to perform the customization.
Before you begin, choose or create the image that will be used as the new icon. Preferably, use a square file with good resolution and centered elements. It's important to know that most tools don't change the original WhatsApp icon; they create a custom shortcut that opens the app normally.
1. X Icon Changer
OX Icon Changer is one of the most straightforward alternatives for changing the WhatsApp icon on Android. The app can be downloaded below and offers a simple process, suitable even for those who have never customized their phone before.
After opening X Icon Changer, select WhatsApp from the list of installed applications. Then, choose one of the available templates or upload an image from your gallery. You can also modify the name displayed below the icon. When finished, the tool adds a new shortcut to your home screen.
Its main benefit is its practicality. It doesn't require completely replacing the Android interface, although ads and small watermarks on the shortcut may appear on certain devices.

2. Shortcut Maker
Shortcut Maker is a versatile option for creating a new WhatsApp shortcut with a custom image and name. You can download it below to change only the desired icon, without transforming the entire home screen.
Within the app, tap “Apps”, locate WhatsApp, and open the editing options. Tap the current icon to select an image from your gallery, an icon from another app, or an installed app pack. Preview the image and add the result to your home screen.
In addition to applications, Shortcut Maker creates shortcuts for files, folders, websites, and settings. The interface requires a little more attention, but offers excellent control over each shortcut.

3. Icon Changer
Icon Changer was developed specifically to visually replace icons using custom shortcuts. The application is available for download below and includes ready-made templates, as well as the option to use your own photos and images.
To customize WhatsApp, simply select it, tap the displayed icon, and choose the new design. The user can also delete or change the shortcut's name. After confirmation, the customized version appears on the home screen and opens WhatsApp normally.
The variety of styles is a strong point. However, depending on the manufacturer and the Android version, the system may add a small shortcut identifier to the icon.

4. Microsoft Launcher
Microsoft Launcher replaces the default Android home screen and allows you to apply custom icons in a more integrated way. You can download it below if you want to change WhatsApp and, at the same time, reorganize the entire appearance of your phone.
After setting it as your default launcher, press and hold on WhatsApp and open the edit option. You can select a different icon or use compatible packages. The app also offers gestures, dark mode, wallpapers, layout backup, and organization tools.
This alternative delivers a more uniform look and avoids relying solely on isolated shortcuts. However, the layout of the home screen will be controlled by the Microsoft Launcher as long as it remains enabled.

5. Nova Launcher
Nova Launcher is ideal for those who want advanced control over icons, grids, folders, and other visual elements. The app can be downloaded below and allows you to customize WhatsApp individually or apply a complete icon pack.
After activating Nova as your home screen, press the WhatsApp icon, choose “Edit,” and tap the current image. Select a file from your gallery or an installed package template. You can also change the size, format, and displayed name.
Nova offers a detailed and flexible experience, although some features may depend on the paid version. Because it replaces the device's launcher, its initial setup takes longer than creating a simple shortcut.

How to change the WhatsApp icon on iPhone
On your iPhone, open the Shortcuts app, tap the "+" button and choose "Add Action". Search for "Open App", select WhatsApp and open the sharing menu. Tap "Add to Home Screen", press the icon shown and choose an image from your Photos app. Type the desired name and confirm by tapping "Add".
The new icon acts as a shortcut, so the original WhatsApp remains installed. To avoid having two icons visible, press and hold the original icon, select “Remove App,” and then “Remove from Home Screen.” Do not choose the option to delete the application.
